Who is Mrs. Barcus?
I started my career in education at Peoria High School 18 years ago as a Chemistry teacher. The first 14 years I taught Chemistry and Physics throughout the valley. I joined the Sky View Campus in 2009. Always striving to improve my ability to make students excited about science, I attended the MNS program at ASU in Physics. The program emphasizes a "modeling" approach to learning science. The Modeling approach to teaching science involves a lot of hands on work, critical thinking, group discussion, and life application.
Over the summer I had the opportunity to work in an Enviornmental Engineering Research laboratory at ASU. The grant project has allowed me to get my hands back in the research feild and bring the current feild work centered on drinking and recreational water safety back to Sky View.
16 years ago, when I begain my pursuit of an advanced degree in Physics, I realized how much I loved the "beauty" of mathmatics. Over the summer I was able to share my love of mathmatics by teaching 7th grade math in summer school. I am pleased to expand my "summer stint" teaching math into a full year of teaching 7th grade math!
Both my husband and I are Arizona natives. We have 2 children. Our daughter Ashley is in college studying to become a Junior High Mathematics teacher and our son, Mitchell, is a Senior in High School at PHS. I love dogs (we have 3), hiking, camping, football and playing games with my family.
I am excited and look forward to seeing all of you in class this year!
